Bernstein Collaboration for Computational Neuroscience (BCOL)

The proposed collaboration aims at a combined experimental and theoretical procedure in the registration and interpretation of spatially extended and at the same time spatially highly resolved data of brain activity. This will be achieved by a combination of different brain imaging methods - electrophysiological recording, optical recording of intrinsic signals, recording of neuronal activity using voltage sensitive dyes and functional magnetic resonance imaging on rodent brains - exploiting the complementary advantages of each method. It is planned to obtain simultaneous recording of different image modalities, registration of all data in a dynamic group specific reference system and combined analysis of all functional data. The approach will be validated on two fundamental problems in the area of cortical plasticity related to pain and learning.
