Robot rat to lead the way in touch technology

Researchers from the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience (BCCN) and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin are participating in a newly funded EU project "BIOTACT. The gaol of the project is to develop machines with sophisticated touch technology, like robots that can use their whiskers like a rat to explore their surroundings (January 2008).

International Summer School for Computational Neuroscience in Freiburg for the next three years

The International Summer School "Advanced Course in Computational Neuroscience (ACCN)" will be hosted by the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Freiburg from 2008 to 2010. This decision was announced by the Scientific Directors of the Summer School at the end of this year's course in Arcachon (France). (September 2007)

Opening of the BCCN Berlin

7 and 8 May 2007 saw the grand opening of the freshly renovated building of the Bernstein Center on the Life Sciences campus in Berlin-Mitte with words of welcome from politicians and scientists and inaugural lectures by four new professors, namely Michael Brecht (Humboldt University Berlin), John-Dylan Haynes (Charité Berlin), Felix Wichmann (Technical University Berlin) and Laurenz Wiskott (Humboldt University Berlin). This was followed on 9 May by the 11th Berlin Colloquium of the Daimler-Benz Foundation entitled "Mind research - what our brain reveals about our thoughts".

Felix Wichmann assumes Bernstein professorship in Berlin

In April 2007, Felix Wichmann takes up the professorship "Modelling of Cognitive Processes", based at the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin. For the first five years, this chair is funded by the BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and will then be continued by the Technical University Berlin (April 2007).

Opening of the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Göttingen on 28 March 2007

The BCCN Göttingen will be officially opened on Wednesday 28 March 2007. Numerous guests from the worlds of science and politics are expected for the opening ceremony at the Georg-August University, including representatives of the BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and the Max Planck Society as well as Lutz Stratmann, Lower Saxony's Minister for Science and Culture. The BCCN Göttingen is one of four such centres in Germany - the others are in Berlin, Freiburg and Munich - funded by the BMBF to investigate the neuronal principles of brain activities using mathematical models. (March 2007).
